Boot Camps For Troubled Teens
WinGate Wilderness Therapy is a top-rated Outdoor Therapeutic Adventure Program, chosen by parents as an alternative to Boot Camps For Troubled Teens and Juveniles. With over 80 years of collective experience with wilderness therapy programs, and located in beautiful Southern Utah, the WinGate program knows how to provide healing and proper treatment for troubled teens. This is accomplished by supporting them in the discovery of a new path and direction in life.
The philosophy behind most boot camps is: if you scream and discipline children enough, they will "get in line." The findings are that while enrolled in the intense, overpowering, military-like setting of a boot camp, defiant teenagers may actually "fall in line." But this "rehabilitation" is, unfortunately, only temporary and based out of fear, thus not producing any "lasting" changes in teens.
It is critical for any parent to examine other viable treatment options. Wilderness adventure programs are far more effective in transforming the lives of troubled teens while helping them get their lives back on the right track. Here at WinGate, you can expect the best results from our compassionate and experienced staff. This research-validated method of wilderness-based treatment makes our work WORK! The serene and distraction-free setting of our wilderness area can help even the most "treatment-resistant" adolescents find their way.

Boot Camps For Juveniles
There are no research-based findings that "favor" boot camps, especially when considering the boot camps initial "intentions" for rehabilitation. Recidivism rates of boot camp participants (referring to a person's chance of relapse back into criminal behavior) are roughly the same when compared to former prison inmates.
It's important for parents to know that Boot Camps have recently come under sharp criticism, by mental health practitioners, for being "too harsh while not addressing the juvenile's real underlying psychological problems through proper counseling and therapy."
Our track record speaks for itself when it comes to lasting life-changing results. Over the years, WinGate has served literally thousands of teen boys, girls, and young adults from all over the country. Our troubled teen graduates are growing to be mentally healthy adults, and emerging as strong individuals motivated to succeed.
Bringing forth peace and restoring emotional health is our goal. Our desire is to witness the realization of your struggling boy or girl make the transition into a triumphant adulthood and living independently. To us, the way to achieve this recovery is by showing them how to harness their cravings through the power of the wilderness.
Boot Camps For Troubled Youth
Years ago, Boot Camps began as "shock incarceration" facilities for adults only. These were created for "first-time" offenders, and the intention was to make the "time served" so abhorrent that the offender would be "scared straight" or "shocked" into model behavior thus avoiding another sentence.
In the end, experts agreed that boot camps using "military-style" discipline, not only didn't work but often made problems worse. Before entrusting your child or teen to a boot camp program, we urge you to consider that most operate without accreditation or licensure, and there is typically little oversight or accountability with the campers.
Our philosophy, here at Wingate, is that while treating troubled kids and adolescents, we create an environment of responsiveness while reducing any resistance they may have to change and toward authority.
At Wingate, we practice "cooperation" rather than "confrontation." Although we follow explicit rules to maintain the safety and overall program effectiveness, we also value and honor each student’s unique path. Because we have respect and positive regard for every student, our therapists strive to gain insights into each individual.
Boot Camps For Out of Control Teenagers
Free boot camps for troubled teens typically do not exist. However, there are state-funded boot camps that have been utilized, only if your teen has been or is in the state juvenile system. Although state-funded boot camps may be the only financially viable option for families in need of financial aid, this option causes drawbacks worth considering.
In the past, some private boot camps and military academies have offered scholarship and grant programs for families unable to afford the tuition. But these "grant" programs are typically "loans" to be paid back in the form of monthly payments. What's more, most of these programs are extinct and hard to find.
The WinGate approach is "non-confrontational." Rather than trying to change a teen’s behavior, we seek to assist in gaining insight into how negative behaviors manifested themselves in the first place. Subsequently, we can help in the development of new skills, thus producing more effective behaviors and actions.
We are here to assist, guide, and coach the parents of struggling children through a very difficult time. We are here to serve - there is hope - and you are not alone. Call Wingate Wilderness Therapy today at (800) 560-1599, and allow us to give your troubled teen the help needed.
