Academicsacademics

WinGate is pleased to announce the addition of academics to the strength of its wilderness therapy program. This academic program is supported and delivered through Park City Independent, a fully accredited, private, year-round high school.

With the emotional challenges struggling teens face, it is not uncommon for school to be a major concern for parents. The thought of pulling a child out of their current curriculum when they are already behind can be quite overwhelming and seem contra-indicated. However, by getting students back on solid ground through the interventions and expertise WinGate provides, students are able to gain greater perspective of the importance of education toward the completion of long-term goals.

During their stay at WinGate, students work on many skills that transfer easily into core academic curriculum. By simply participating in daily activities, working on their core issues, and exerting the effort needed to make changes, students are able to finish WinGate having earned academic credit in the following courses:

• .5 credits – Language Arts
• .5 credits – Physical Education
• .5 credits – Food/Nutrition
• .5 credits – Interpersonal Communication
• .5 credits – Outdoor Education
• .5 credits – Health and Fitness

Enrollment in this academic program is not mandatory but enrollment for each student is completed through Park City Independent. After the student is admitted into WinGate an academic counselor from Park City Independent will contact you and initiate a review of your child’s academic needs and determine your best options. In some cases, credit remediation may be available. For more information on Park City Independent see www.parkcityindependent.com
