Zach grew up in central Missouri, spending his days on the river or in the woods. He attended Missouri State University, where he studied conservation and anthropology. After graduation, Zach moved to Asheville, North Carolina in search of adventure. He was looking for a job that lined up with his area of study and came across an advertisement for wilderness therapy.
After one week in the field, he knew that he had found his passion. He spent four and a half years as a field instructor in the north Georgia mountains. Eventually, he had to hang his boots up due to the birth of his first son. He transitioned to a residential facility that specialized in healing Developmental Trauma, Zach continued working directly with students, and was able to work in the Neurotherapy department. He worked as a Neurotherapy Supervisor & technician for over three years, helping students calm their nervous system and retrain their brains to create new neural pathways.
Zach is currently the Field Director for Expanse at Wingate, and is also a Life Coach, he continues to mentor young folks and assist them on their transformative journey to becoming the best version of themselves. In his off time, he enjoys being a family man, going for hikes, reading, riding his bike and being just being outside.
