When Is It Time to Take Action on Unhappiness?

Everyone feels down once in a while, and this goes for kids, too.

However, a lasting pattern of severe unhappiness can point to depression and other mental health concerns. Likewise, if unhappiness goes on for too long and there seems to be no relief in sight, it can make a significant difference in a young person’s outlook and future plans.

Overcoming sorrow – no matter its source – is empowering. But struggling to do so without seeing any real change can train young people to believe they have no influence in their own life. When unhappiness drags on two weeks or more, it may be diagnosed as depression.
