More About

Chris is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the State of Utah and Louisiana. His career began in 2005 as a Wilderness Field Guide, and it was from this initial experience that he discovered his real passion for wilderness therapy. Chris found that he thoroughly enjoyed walking beside and caring for others as each student traversed their personal journey through the outdoors.

As a child and as an adult, Chris's time in the wilderness taught him to use the wilderness as a healing balm for his life struggles, which enabled him to naturally help young people, with their problems, in the same way. His love of nature and respect for its therapeutic power and balancing influence in his own life gave him an appreciation for wilderness therapy's healing effect on others.

At this point, Chris knew that he wanted nothing more than to become a therapist. So he left the wilderness in favor of going back to school and receiving a proper education in this field. In due time, Chris earned a Bachelor's Degree and a Master's Degree in Social Work from Louisiana State University, and an additional Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology from Southeastern Louisiana University.

As a therapist, Chris is innovative in treating adolescents and young adults. His passion for providing hope and change for his clients and their families has been refreshing and life-changing. Chris combines these two worlds of experience and training to serve his clients best, providing the gift of therapy through the healing experience of the wilderness. Chris has provided life-changing therapy for over ten years with various modalities, including private practice, adolescent outpatient programs, adult rehabilitation, mental and addiction hospitals, and wilderness therapy.

Originally, Chris joined WinGate in 2016 as the Program Director. Prior to this Chris was the Clinical Director at St. James Behavioral Hospital, managing a 53-bed inpatient hospital and a 93-bed outpatient facility. Chris spent years in hospital administration, marketing and managing several departments prior to becoming a therapist.

Chris also has experience running and managing his own successfull businesses. Chris's background in business and hospital administration combined with his therapeutic heart and love for wilderness makes him a unique and empowering leader for the WinGate team. He provides structure and a systematic approach to leadership. In his pursuit of life balance, he enjoys spending time with his family doing various activities (fishing, hunting, sports, hiking, and camping). Chris also enjoys coaching youth sports teams and serving in different capacities in his community and church.
