Mary Lou Wise - LCSW
Mary Lou Wise has been working with young adults and adolescents for 25 years. Her clinical specialties include addictions (substance abuse and dependency, eating disorders, gaming addictions, and other addictive behaviors), grief and loss, and issues related to underachievement. She relies on her ability to connect quickly with clients and use the therapeutic relationship to internally motivate change. Students and families love Mary Lou’s style—a combination of straightforward honesty and compassion.
"My goal as a therapist is to help clients determine what they truly want from life, recognize their true potential, and create a life they love and take pride in,” says Mary Lou of her work. “I believe we all need to live with intent."
As the parent of four teenagers, Mary Lou approaches her work with the perspective of an experienced parent. "One of the greatest rewards of my work is to give parents back a child who is well on their way to a bright and healthy future.” Mary Lou loves the letters she receives from students and parents describing a successful life after treatment. She believes healing comes principally from heartfelt and honest communication in the context of authentic relationships.
Mary Lou grew up on the shores of Bear Lake in southeastern Idaho, where she was at home in nature. In her free time Mary Lou loves travel and outdoor activities—particularly water sports. She and her husband, David, have been married for 21 years; they have four children and a border collie named Strider.
